Fitness Programs

Fitness is defined as the state of good physical health and general well being and, in particular, the capability to do tasks of daily living and sports. Fitness is often achieved through physical activity, proper diet, adequate rest, and moderate-to-large amounts of sleep. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines the term “fitness” as the capacity to do regular activities requiring minimum exertion. However, many other groups use the term to mean that the individual’s ability to do routine activities, without too much exertion. When this definition is used, it is not always clear how much the definition needs to be modified to fit different circumstances.

People who are fit tend to lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy a number of positive benefits, including better health, increased energy and a general sense of well being. One of the most obvious advantages of a good fitness program is its ability to promote good health by reducing stress levels. Some experts also believe that people who participate in a fitness program are less likely to become obese or overweight than those who don’t. Furthermore, those who participate in a fitness program are less likely to develop chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke and certain types of cancer.

There are several ways to participate in a fitness program and all of these methods have positive effects on the overall fitness of the individual. Fitness exercises can be done at home or at the gym. If you choose to do your fitness at home, consider incorporating a balanced diet into your workout plan to reduce your calorie intake. If you work out at the gym, you can choose from a variety of equipment to strengthen muscles and tone muscles. Whatever method you choose, be sure to include aerobic activity or brisk walking as part of your overall fitness regimen.
